A Georgian hallmarked silver 1 quart tankard of tapering cylindrical form with bands of ribbed decoration, slightly domed monogrammed lid with pierced thumbpiece, London 1807, 28 oz makers mark worn John Emes), bearing inscription:
Presented to Bernard H Dunn Esq by the Officers & Passengers on board the Union Company's steamship "Briton" in appreciation of his gallant conduct in jumping overboard at sea to save a fellow creature's life on 29:October 1867
In nice condition with gilded interior, the inscription is quite clear, the thumb piece is very slightly off centre. The maker's mark is most likely John Emes and the date is London 1807.
